Dear KTFC member or friend:
For the second time in two weeks, we have a bit of positive news regarding transportation funding.
At the recent annual meeting of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, participants heard from a Federal Highway Administration official that the federal Highway Trust Fund will be solvent well into 2022.
We will spare you the down-in-the-weeds explanation for this development (although you can find it at this link), but suffice it to say it’s the result of some budgetary maneuvers that resulted in the infusion of several billion dollars that will become available to reimburse states for construction projects.
However, as we noted two weeks ago, there remains a wide gap between construction resources and needs, as we continue to await a U.S. House vote on the infrastructure funding measure that passed recently in the Senate with bipartisan support. We are hopeful that bill will be considered soon.
Be of Good Cheer,
— The Wolff
