Dear KTFC Members & Friends:
PennDOT is in the midst of soliciting the public’s input on proposed updates to its Statewide Public Participation Plan.
PennDOT’s planning process revolves around the Statewide Long Range Transportation Plan, the Twelve Year Program and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, along with the Public Participation Plan. Reviewing the PPP will help in understanding PennDOT’s transportation planning and programming and how PennDOT uses public engagement.
As transportation advocates, members of our Coalition are uniquely qualified to assist in this process. All of us have constituencies that rely on transportation and insight regarding many different aspects of mobility. We hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the transportation planning process.
PennDOT will accept input through March 11. The plan and instructions for participating are available at this link.

TRANSPORTATION ISSUE UPDATE
- The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a case brought by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association asserting that the Turnpike’s tolling practices are illegal. It upholds two lower court decisions and would seem to put the issue to rest.
- The Wolf administration continues to examine the idea of reducing transportation emissions by requiring fuel wholesalers to purchase carbon credits.
- A nine-county Circuit Trails Coalition has released a report with 12 recommendations for advancing 171 miles of trails in Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey.
- The Southern Beltway in western Pennsylvania is on track for completion in the fall of 2021.
